The Chaplain Visit continued

Chaplain: “Have you shared this hopeful experience with your daughter? Maybe it could bring some reassurance to her too. And you also have a son, right?”

Mrs. G: “Yes, and he’s more accepting that this might be my time.”

Chaplain: “Sometimes it’s helpful for to talk about how this time is for you and what it is that you hope for with both of your children at once…is that something you feel you’d like to try?”

Mrs. G: “Yes, but I’m not sure what I’d say.”

Chaplain: “Well you could test out what you want to say by trying out some things with me – chaplains can be good “rehearsal” people.”

The Chaplain can be a very effective team member in helping the patient communicate with their family members and the medical staff.
