Conducting the Study - Responding to Media Inquiries

In some “first-of-a-kind” innovative therapies, the media may become involved and want to know the details of the procedure as well as the subject’s prognosis. When this can be foreseen, the subject should be informed of it during the process of informed consent. Reports to the media should be coordinated and/or delivered by the Yale Office of Public Affairs. Yale University discourages media access to subjects, because the subjects may feel coerced. All media access to subjects should be reviewed with the IRB as soon as the investigator learns of the media’s interest.
