  • He was fearful about becoming “dependent” as he got sicker, and when you asked him what he meant, he expressed concern about becoming incontinent.
  • He was worried that his family would think he was “giving up” if he couldn’t get more chemo and started hospice services.
  • He felt estranged from his religion and church, but wanted to find a way to re-connect with God.

You asked him about relaying his concerns to the ward team and his attendings and that you would return later that day to check in with him. He thanked you for listening and said he felt much better after getting “some of this off my chest”.
